The Igniș Mountains are located in the northern part of Baia Sprie, in a fairytale natural setting. Even if geologically they are part of the volcanic chain of the Gutâi Mountains, geographically and geomorphologically they are often considered as a distinct landscape unit. The Igniș Mountains are known for their complex scenery, ranging from spectacular andesitic cliffs and gorges to gentle volcanic plateaus with marshy or peaty areas. The extensive deciduous and coniferous forests, as well as the special biodiversity, included this destination on the list of Sit Natura 2000 sites.
The highest point is the Igniș Peak (1307m), a superb volcanic plateau dotted with monumental rock formations and blueberry and cranberry bushes. Loved by locals and tourists alike, Igniș is the perfect place to explore and relax in nature.
