STOLL`S FOUNTAIN

Since ancient times, fountains have beautified cities and added a more relaxing atmosphere to public spaces. They were usually placed in city centers, squares, or places where many people gathered. The same is true for Baia Sprie. In the first half of the 20th century, near the Roman Catholic Church, a beautiful gold-bronze fountain was built, featuring an ancient goddess holding a ceramic vessel on her shoulder.

The Stoll Fountain in Baia Sprie was constructed in April 1910 in Hunyadi Square (now Liberty Square) and was funded by lawyer Stoll Béla, during the term of then-mayor Farkas Jenő. Stoll Béla, a great philanthropist and director of the Savings Bank in Baia Mare, was an influential figure in Baia Sprie, with part of his family residing in the town. In the same year, 1910, Stoll Béla was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the city.
