Baia Sprie, a town with a long-standing pottery tradition, is still proud today to have its last potter, Daniel Leș.
Daniel was born in 1972 into the family of painter and ceramic artist Ioan Leș.
From the age of five, he spent time in his father's workshop, where his talent for drawing and ceramics was shaped. From this fortunate blend of the potter's wheel and drawing emerged Daniel Leș's unique art: figurative ceramics.
Since 1997, Daniel has been invited to exhibit his original works in galleries both in Romania and abroad, where he has received numerous prizes, including Certificates of Excellence, awards for originality, and Special Jury Prizes.
Starting in 2000, he became recognized as a promoter and preserver of traditional pottery, inspiring younger generations through his dedication to time-honored clay-working techniques.
His first ceramic characters were inspired by the people of the village where he grew up and even bear the names of those who influenced him.
In 2005, he opened Casa Olarului Guesthouse, where visitors can stay in rustic-style rooms. Guests can attend pottery and modeling demonstrations, take part in hands-on workshops, and purchase ceramic pieces at studio prices.
Traditional meals are served, and unforgettable candlelit dinners are held by lamplight, during which old stories are told, creating a truly unique and memorable experience.
