The Catholic church in the town of Baia Sprie was built between 1847 and 1858, based on the plans of priest Tischler Albin, on the site of an older church that was demolished in 1847. The organ from the old church was taken to Zvolen Fortress in Slovakia at the command of John Hunyadi, in exchange for the tithe on the production of all the gold and silver mines in the town.
The main entrance of the new church, which features two towers, is decorated with a portico supported by four columns. In front of the entrance stand the statues of the Hungarian saints Stephen and Ladislaus. The interior columns, covered in artificial red marble, define the character of the interior.
The six frescoes on the vault were created in 1877 by artists from Milan, and the main altar painting was done by the imperial painter Lotz Károly. The paintings on the secondary altars were made in 1859 by painter Franz Geiling. The organ built in 1857 broke down, and since 1984, an electric organ has been in use.
